FLOW

Water is an essential ingredient for all living things in the globe. For humans its used for agriculture, drinking, hygiene, extinguishing fires, providing drinking water and waste water services, industrial applications power generation and food processing. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_crisis) As the world is being developed and the population is increasing dramatically the need of clean water increases. "Flow" documentary explains how people in different countries are facing many problems since they don’t have access to clean water. In this essay I will discuss the main problem, its causes and effects and finally some possible solutions for better a future.
Water will became strategic resource in the coming years. Studies show that the largest markets in the world are oil, electricity and thirdly water! Many people in different parts of the world don’t have access to clean water. Recent studies show that 1.1 billion people don’t have access to clean water (http://www.charitywater.org/whywater ). Moreover, 2 million people die every year because of unclean water related diseases. Many water companies invest in poor countries to produce bottled clean water. However, the problem is that some companies are dishonest. They get advantage of how much profit they will gain without thinking of the side effects of their project. Many things led to water crisis. Flow pointed at three points, industries, population and organizations. In poor countries such as India population increases dramatically and more than two thirds of people without an improved water source live on less than $2 a day. India gets loans from the World Bank to fill necessary needs such as food, water and development projects. The problem is that the country does not use the money properly and the loan is increasing each time which makes India incapable to meet its loans. In this case the World Bank start to govern India indirectly and in this case decides on the solutions that lead to provide clean water. Suez is the selected company that dammed. The Ganges River to sell bottled water to Indians at 10 times the price it had been. The Majority of the people can't afford the price and get water from the natural sources which may be polluted. (http://www.iwp.bas.bg/index_files/Page400.htm)
This is a strategic problem. People can live without food for weeks but without water the person barely lives a few days. A solution should be found and people all around the word should act since they are affected sooner or later. Media should make people aware all over the world that water is rare and people should use it wisely. In India 10 liters per day costs $200 a year per person. A scientist discovered a way that kills pathogens that live in water by building an aluminum filter system. If the government employed the Indians living in each village and provided them with clean water wouldn't cost a lot. Moreover, employ people to dig the ground and look for underground water. In conclusion, we are living in a changing world, any act we do affects every element in the plant. We should be wise in dealing with rare items such as water and try our hard to live in a safe environment.
